This are my reflections from the pre-dialogue session on Saturday with the MPs. Basically it was a session to prepare all the participants for the actual dialogue with Prime Minister. In my group of about 80 of us in the room, we had Dr Lim Wee Kiak (Sembawang GRC) & Dr Muhammad Faishal (Marine Parade GRC) as our facilitators. The topic was on Education (quite divinely) as our tribe is called to redeem education. We went through topics like Community Involvement Program (CIP), multi cultural society, elitism etc in our educational system.
I thank God for the privilege to sit in the group where many dynamic youths and representatives from different youth organizations were represented. As I hear them speak, I felt there were so many things I can learn from them. As each of them stood up to speak, some sought to impress, some wanted their voices to be heard & some had a message to give to the national leaders. The common thing which came out from all of them was passion, hunger & drive. Though I know the organizations they represent, I am not too sure about their background but I am indeed impressed by their confidence & boldness & passion.
As I reflected on it, I am at the same time saddened by the fact that many Christians I know are not like that. Many driven individuals I know belong to world who do not know God. Looking at this generation with me included, very often I find believers not standing up among the pre-believing community to speak up. Don’t we have something to say about our God? Didn’t God do something in our lives that we can talk about?
On the contrary, I see Christians remaining silent, shunning the platform and avoiding the call of God. If the youths of the world can stand up so boldly to speak passionately about their beliefs, HOW MUCH MORE should the people of God rise up to make their voices heard.
In the session with the MPs, I didn’t quite think about any questions to ask but as the group discussed about CIP, I stood up to speak about service-learning (something which I eat & sleep on as long as I work in TOUCH). I was glad that I was given a chance to influence the thinking of national leaders. Inside me, I told myself that this has to be done more. Christian leaders need to influence the world’s values at every level. Especially the leadership level of the nation (& nations beyond). I am not the scholarly or intellectual kind of students nor am I eloquent but I have a burden to speak His truth into lives. Though I wasn’t chosen to speak to Prime Minister but I believe when the Lord compels me to speak, I believe I will.
The world out there needs to hear the voice of God’s people. We have work to do which Christ did not finish doing (Col 1:24). Let’s work hard and equip ourselves for the day when the Lord will call us and give us the stage to speak on. Are you speaking to others about God daily? Are you standing tall among your pre-believing community? Are you keep quiet about God’s grace & glory or is YOUR VOICE HEARD out there?
