99 displays Punctuality

Today, I was back at Canberra Secondary School to anchor the Boys Brigade. If all of you know, we are a rather young company (about 3 years old). We are in a parade which the whole school is involved, along with the rest of the uniform groups and CCA groups. The rest of the uniform groups are sending either their best or their most experienced students for this event. These uniform groups are definitely larger in membership as compared to our BB coy. Therefore they have the liberty to pick and choose whom to put into the parade. Definitely, they would put the best up front.

Due to the size problem, we had no choice but to put all of our Boys for the parade. It didn't even matter whether they were sec ones or twos. We had fill the quota of 24. We did. And yes, our marching standards is not very outstanding on comparison with the rest. But I took heart in the fact that we had a younger lot compared to the others. Hey, ours Boys are like sec1, 2, 3s and the rest of the CCA participants were sec3, 4 and 5s. Don't get me wrong. I am not complaining. I'm here just painting a picture for all of us to see. In fact, it was an honour for us to be one of the youngest group forming the contingent! As it goes, my story has not ended yet but has began.
Today, as usual the Boys prepared themselves before the parade. They did uniform and other checks. Then the teacher who is the Main Coordinator came along and praised us for being always on time. I was quite surprised when she told me that. And today as the Boys marched, I felt there was much improvement compared to about 3weeks ago. And another teacher told my CCA teacher that our Boys have improved. That affirmed my judgement. I was glad and thanked God for it. (Read on...)

Then before the parade rehearsals ended, the teacher who is the Main Coordinator came to debrief and brief the participants of the expected before the actual event. That's when she stressed on the importance of PUNCTUALITY. And took our Boys Brigade as an EXAMPLE. In her own words, "I must thank the Boys Brigade as they have been Always Ready. They may not be the most important contingent although they are a supporting one they have been always punctual and waiting for you, guys". She was pointing out the many of the participants in the Guard of honor and other CCAs were always late. The Guard of honor are the important contingent and we are one of the contigents that make up the whole formation.

At that point of time, I was standing tall and proud for 99th Coy. We may not have been good at marching but we were praised for 1. being consistent and for 2. valuing punctuality as a virtue. We were made to be an example for the rest of the Uniform and CCA groups.

1 Timothy 4:12 Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.

Marching will improve with time and effort but Values must be taught and learnt young.
