It all started with the final push given by our commander, Ps Khong, to bless 5 persons by the end of that Sunday. I didn't really want to go onto the streets because I already had in my mind wanted to call more of my ex-schoolmates to bless them and pray for them over the phone.
Amos paired up with Joel, while I paired up with Murphy to bless Simei for God. However, as we were called back for our debrief by Amos, my initial excitement ended in discouragement. Two thirds of the people we saw were Malays and they rejected the One who sent us in goodwill. Murphy and I went up to about 30 persons (I mean it!) but we only blessed 7 of them. It just wasn't how I expected it would turn out to be. But I still am glad that God has blessed 7 of these people.
One of the seven was a 16-year-old Chinese national from Shenzhen. He was sitting alone on a bench in the neighbourhood park. His name is Yu Da and he had just immigrated to Singapore with his family and is in the process of finding a school. Initially, I didn't even want to approach him as he was staring at us from a distance already, and I sort of wanted to spring a surprise on people.
Turned out that he was very happy to receive the blessing. I was struggling with my inefficient Mandarin to converse with Him and because of that, I didn't even pray for Him. We told him about our celebration services in Expo and to our surprise, he was pretty keen to come and learn some English. Hur hur that was pretty interesting, how can I not encourage him to join us, regardless of his reason. I told him I would contact him later the week to invite him. (Read on...)
One week later, our cell attended a funeral service before service and as we were all starving and running out of time, we decided to not go into hall 10 but buy food from hall 9 and listen to the sermon together with the other latecomers. I wouldn't suggest that though. And I realised that it totally slipped my mind to call Yu Da to invite him to church!
As we sat before the screen and watched Ps Khong preach, I looked to my right and there was Yu Da sitting alone!! I waved at him and motioned for him to sit beside me. What a miracle!! He came on his own!! We had simple conversations during the sermon and with my limited Chinese, I translated some of what Ps Khong said into Mandarin. He joined our cell for a short gathering and debrief after the sermon. He stopped short at believing in Jesus yet because he ain't sure. But that ain't totally bad because one day when he does believe, that means that he is totally sure of what he is getting into!
We invited him for dinner with us during the weekday too and he was more than ok with joining us. Last night, he even sms-ed me to ask Jesus on his behalf to allow him to be able to enrol into the school of his choice as he didn't feel confident about the interview earlier in the day. I am amazed! He recognises the power that the Lord has over us and that prayers can be answered! I gathered the cell to pray for him right away.
Though he has yet to receive any news from the school. He has thanked us for our prayers. He is joining us for service this week too!
Whoever that is reading this, let's pray for his situation with the school and may God bless him with the school of his choice. More importantly, let's be praying for his soul and may he come to accept Jesus as his Lord and Saviour!!!
