Running together for a prize

1 Corinthians 9

24 Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.

25 Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.

26 Therefore I do not run like a man running aimlessly; I do not fight like a man beating the air.

27 No, I beat my body and make it my slave so that after I have preached to others, I myself will not be disqualified for the prize.

“How would success look like for you?” I asked my girls on our last training for the Standard Chartered Run. An interesting question that Ps Seng Lee always asks. Yes, how would success look like at the end of the day, in what we do, at the end of our life? Do we know the prize that is laid before us?

A simple medal handed over to all the runners who had completed the race, regardless the timing. A symbol of success; a mark of the completion.

At that point of time, none of us remembered the time we had to struggle through, the distance that seemed never-ending. It was then that we finally appreciated the training that we had gone through to prepare us for this race.

We tasted the sweetness of success at the end of our race. What about you? At the end of all the busyness, events and meetings?

How would success look like for you? What is the prize that you have received?
