10 by 24 : "Why don't we hear or know the voice of God?"

Reflections on Sermon by Ps Doug Lambert on 28 January 2007

The Lord had begin to speak to me at Saturday’s prayer meeting about the meaning of the spiritual family and hearing the voice of God, through Pastor Seng Lee’s sharing.

As Pastor Lambert spoke of the same message, it cemented God’s call in my life to love beyond words and to keep God as the central focus of my life. This by building an ALTAR before Him. The word of God that struck me most was about hoarding the things we had and holding them dear to us.

Acts 4:32 "...not one of them claimed that anything was their own..."

If we hold onto our own commitments, we are withholding God's blessings from touching someone else. How true of this in our lives, that we seem ‘committed’ to the things of God, when God actually wants full surrender rather than the commitment that we understand and are willing to give out. Complete surrender to God requires that there is none other and that nothing else matters, but God alone.

Pastor Doug shared the testimony of his diamond ring. It does not have to be a diamond ring, it could be an hour of your time or giving your brother/sister a call or showing love to someone who is in need. This is so true, and with the level of faith that we have, God will use us to be instruments of His blessing.

Ever wondered why we don’t make impact in each other’s lives? Ever wondered why we don’t seem to bring blessing?
1 John 3:17,18 "....sees his brother in need and closes his heart of compassion against him, how does the love of God remain in him?"

What does this tell me? I believe that as believers, we confess with our mouth and believe in our hearts and we are saved by grace, receiving the fullness of God’s love. However, to remain in God’s love and not to loose our heart for Him, we need to continue to love others.

The Lord has showed me, let us not hold on to things of our own but to count the cost of following Jesus. Let us surrender our hearts and lives to him lest we stop hearing from God and ultimately become devoid of love.

This weekend, as we hear about allowing God to speak to our lives, let us not mistaken the message for another guilt trip that requires a quick response. I believe it requires us to surrender all to Jesus, so that we can continue to have God’s love in our hearts so that it can be used to bless others.
