Reflections of SJ Tribe Prayer Meeting on 27 January 2007
Tonight, we were led through a structured experience by pastor. In many ways, our experience had to be a divine set-up because the timing of the session was perfect. At different levels, the flock’s needs were met. For one, pastor addressed the issue of why FCBC is not growing as fast as other churches in Singapore by calling for self-reflection leading to the necessity for corporate responsibility. We are to remain faithful to what God has called us to do and to continue to hunger for more of Him!
Last week, we were taught that one key to leading a victorious life is to be holy and to stay connected to God. Tonight, we were taught the second key; i.e. to be led by God. Again, this is a very apt reminder as people settle down to the new year and the busyness of work/study begins to take its toll. I am glad that I do not have to wait until I fall to find out that a hand to lead and guide me is always there. Tonight, God extended His invitation to all and I am glad to have fallen into His embrace.
As God used pastor to lead us to the ALTAR, we were led to stop looking and comparing with the outside world but to focus on our own spiritual walk. In the stillness of the hour, we stand in silent awe as mortal men, seeking in earnest the immortal God almighty. As pastor led us in claiming each step captured in the acronym ALTAR, I felt a surge of faith and strength within me to claim the ground that God has laid out for me in this new year. Ministering and living from the inside out liberates me to go deep, look far and ask big of God.
Up to this point, we heard and we yielded. We have yet to respond individually but we did not have to wait long. We were given time to learn to hear the voice of God. Again, at the end of it, pastor rounded up by helping us to interpret and process the experience. His decision to do so with the youngest brothers and sisters was intentional. This group would probably need guidance most and it was a learning opportunity for the more senior ones.
The gold and silver teeth filing experience was, in my opinion, a prelude to what we can see in days to come. I was reminded that while signs and wonders affirm our faith in God, they open the eyes and minds of our pre-believing friends. These can be powerful tools to break the stronghold of even the strongest nature.
From rejecting the need to compare to the call for us to rise up as pastors of the next generations, tonight’s prayer meet had truly been a spiritual and instructional experience for me.
