Reflection on Sunday service message

“Endure hardship with us like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No one serving as a soldier gets involved in civilian affairs — he wants to please his commanding officer.”(2 Tim 3-4)

Through pastor Eugene’s message, God has shown me the connection and link between being a warrior of Light and being a good soldier of Christ Jesus.
How can I rise up as a warrior without first and foremost becoming a good soldier for the Lord?

What makes a soldier a GOOD soldier?

1. Endurance

I see the urgent need to ask God to build up my endurance. It is a VITAL quality for everyone in the kingdom of God because as pastor Eugene shared, no child of God will be spared from persecution and hardship if we take the call of God seriously to pursue a holy and godly life.

Personally, I need to deliberately set aside time to do warfare prayer for the challenges I face in my personal life, my home and even my workplace. Now that I think about it, what feeble prayers I have been making to the Lord all this while. It’s time to pray from victory! God forbid that I should sit back and relax in a challenging time such as this. There is no victory without a battle!

2. Pleasing the Commanding Officer
As I look back, I lament over the occasions in my life when I have wasted time having been distracted by “civilian affairs”, which I believe, refer to worldly concerns and affairs. Time = life!!!!

This is where I need to ask the Holy Spirit to help me “fix my eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before HIM endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand throne of God.” (Heb 12:2)

May the Holy Spirit grant me revelation on what it truly means to “FIX my eyes on Him.”

3. Absolute surrender and obedience.
There is no better role model for me than Christ Jesus. He has shown me what is means to be a “good soldier” for God. His absolute submission and obedience to God’s calling ….even to the point of crucifixion!

I see surrender and obedience in the lives of pastor Khong, pastor Nina, pastor Eugene, pastor Julie, pastor Seng Lee and pastor Josephine….such beauty of the Lord in them.

I am left with no excuses. God has graciously surrounded me with people who inspire me to take the call of being a good soldier of Christ seriously…….What about you?

“Therefore since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run the race with perseverance(endurance) the race marked out for us.”
(Heb12: 1)
