2 Chronicles 12:14: “He (King Rehoboam) did evil because he had not set his heart on seeking God.”
Last week we were at the Pastors’ Prayer Summit, an annual prayer getaway for God’s ministers. We had been very blessed. We were fed “new food” by the Lord, served to us by His gifted servant leaders. We were refreshed by it. Among the many words released to us was the above-mentioned verse from 2 Chronicles 12:14.
All of us want to obey God. But why is obedience so difficult? Obedience presumes that we know what we’re to obey, that is we’ve heard God’s Word to us. But we can’t hear if we had not set our hearts on seeking Him in the first place.
I’m reminded of the number of times I’ve set my alarm clock to ring for a wake up call in the morning but have slept through, ignoring its ringing. I have not set my heart to wake up … that’s all.
Setting our hearts to seek God suggests a certain state of preparedness or engagement. You determine right from the start to seek God, not only when you come to a point of decision.
And If you seek Him, He will be found by you (1 Chron 28:9b).
