A Whole Day Set Aside to Go Deep

I thank God for dear pastor csl's heart for the tribe to go deep into the word. The 60 odd of us started the day at 9am learning about the word of God. From learning about the time-line to understanding the bible book by book, chapter by chapter and finally verse by verse... i've concluded that many of the modern-day christians are bible illiterate! which is ironic because we have the intellectual capabilities and the mental capacity to expound on the word of God. This can only mean that we are NOT INTERESTED. ouch.

Pastor always says: "God offends the mind to reveal the condition of the ________(those who dunno carry on 10000!)"

Yes not interested. We lack that hunger to seek the word. God has graciously given us the education to be able to read, to write, to think analytically and rationally but we havent really used it well in the area of reading the truth true?

I researched and found out that we probably dun give the bible that much air time because we dun appreciate the history behind it.

Did you know that a significant number of people were either burned at the stake or executed because of the bible you hold in your hands today? Many of them are the very scholars that translated the bible from the original hebrew and greek text to other languages.

Mighty sacrificial men like John Wycliffe and William Tyndale also known as "Father of the English Bible" who were very much responsible for the first English translation in AD1300.


Did you also know that the bible is the FIRST book to be printed? The above is a REAL copy of the Gutenberg Bible that was printed in Germany when printers were invented. If you visit the American Congress Library you might get a chance to see it.

and... Its the most translated book!
AD900 - 17 languages
AD1400 - 28 languages
1900 - 537 languages
1980 - 1100 languages

Not to count the many still being translated now for the minority groups such as tribes in Africa, Asia, South America!!! And yet, it is the least read book. How saddening.

How can we convince our pre-believing friends if we ourselves do not know much about.
After reading this, we have two responses:

1. Ignore
2. Start spending time reading the word than doing other things that do not count for eternity

Stop sitting on the fence any more... It Hurts!!!
