Special SEA Games Polo Update

This is a SEA Games Polo Update! Our Singapore team confidently beat Philippines 10.5 - 1 on Thursday to move on to the finals where they will play juggernaut and their toughest competitor yet, Malaysia, for the Gold or Silver medal. The Finals will be played tomorrow, Saturday. This is indeed a wonderful accomplishment for Singapore and SP! Thank God for His favour!

To put into perspective the significance of already a guaranteed Silver medal placing, here are some facts.

  1. The last time polo was included in the SEA Games some 24 years ago, Singapore won the bronze medal. This time round, we have already done one better.

  2. Most of the other teams are made up of professionals who train full-time, while Singapore's team consist largely of amateurs with full-time jobs (and crazy traveling schedules...).

  3. Our average age for the team is 42.8, Malaysia's is 30.4, Indonesia's 30.2, Philippine's 39.8 and Thailand's 22.3! What we might lack in physical fitness, we certainly make up for in experience!

  4. Countries like Malaysia have a larger pool of horses to choose from, given that they have more polo clubs in the country. Singapore only has one polo club, which means we really don't get to choose much in deciding which of the 24 horses to bring up.

Considering all these, our team has certainly done very well! SP himself played well during the Philippines match. His presence in the team certainly makes a difference! Let's continue to pray and trust God for the GOLD for the Singapore team! Even if we get Silver, it is already a great blessing. But seriously, if we can ask God for Gold, WHY NOT?! Let's claim it today! Amen!
