What struck me most during the prayer meeting was when Ps Seng Lee taught about how to be victorious using ALTAR where the 2nd ‘A’ = admitting our sins and prejudices and gave the example asking whether we could worship God under the hot sun.
I was reminded of a recent conversation over msn with someone. I was trying to invite her to return to worship God at Youth service. Her reply to me was that Youth service is too loud, too noisy and she don’t know how to sing most of the songs. My reply to her was fast and immediate. “I understand what you mean,” I said. “I experience that too.” As soon as I typed that, God immediately reminded me that worship is about Jesus, not about us. And worship is a deliberate effort on our part to sing praise and offer up reverence to God who deserves all praise.
Worship is to make God feel good, not to make ourselves feel good. But so often, in worship, we want to feel ministered and forget that worship is about God. I’m also reminded of times when I didn't know how to sing the worship song but I worshipped God quietly by reflecting on the lyrics of the song and ascribing praise to God. I had a good time of worshipping God even without singing.
How about you my friend? Was there a time when you felt that the song at Sunday service doesn’t minister to you or doesn’t speak to you regarding the situation that you are in? Is the music too loud or too hip for you? But remember, worship is not about us. Let us make a conscious effort to focus on God and give Him the due reverence and praise, just as the worship song goes, "I’m coming back to the heart of worship, and it’s all about You, it’s all about You, Jesus…."
