Have you spent time with God today?

Have you done your quiet time today? Two weeks ago, this question was asked by Pastor SL and not many of us raised our hands. Perhaps there was a sense of guilt in some of us; perhaps there was a reason behind for not doing our QT, perhaps… No matter what kind of responses we had at that moment, I believe we have grieved not only our spiritual father but also our Heavenly Father.

It is not so much the form of doing things for God, in this case, doing our quiet time, but really the condition of our hearts before God. Many a time, Christians may make remarks like “I am very busy now, I will do my QT later” or “God, wait till I finish this and I will come to you” or “God, today I am tired, I will talk to you after this rest” or even “God, I know you understand, I will talk to you when I am more free”.

Are you allowing your schedule to determine your time with God? Or allowing your time with God to determine your schedule?

Matt 7:24-27
The Wise and Foolish Builders
24 "Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. 26 But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash."

Why do we need to live by His Word?

Can our faith withstand the test of time?

Are we taking God’s word seriously?

Are we taking God seriously?

What kind of faith would you pass to the next generation?

Many of us are not spending time with God, in His words - simply because we do not love God.
Jesus replied: " Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.”- Matthew 22:37-39

God is looking at our hearts!
4 conditions of the hearts that hear the word of God
Matt 13: 1-13
Mark 4: 13-20
Luke 8:4-15

Which one of these do you belong to? Don’t just make a quick answer, reflect on these and meditate on it and allow God to speak to you and convict you.

As I reflect through, these were very familiar passages and for this season of my life, I have been thinking about the verse on loving God. I asked myself this question so many times, do I really love God? God has said in His word, to love God with ALL my heart, soul and mind and if I don’t love God with ALL my heart, soul and mind, I have sinned against the Lord. And if I do not love God, I have no love at all because God is love, and if I do not have love, how am I able to love the people around me?

A reflection with no action is just an empty thought. I need to go back to the very basic, to learn to love God again, and what does it take to do that? The very basic is to get to know Him again, and in order to know Him, I need to spend time with Him, I need to have the desire to want to know Him, I need to talk to Him; and one way to know Him is to read His word. And I am not merely reading but to understand. And understanding the word is not merely understanding it in my mind but also in my heart.

One action plan for me is to read His word and to talk to Him everyday first thing in the morning before I go to work. This means waking up earlier to make time for Him; and also to end my day with some quiet moments with Him.

It has been two weeks. Have you spent time with God today?
