It was a beautiful trip. It was something I had in my mind close to a year ago to bring my BB boys out to immense in the adventurous spirit. Indeed, it allows the “boy” in us to be fully released as we venture from caves to rainforest tracks to rock walls and rivers. It was the first overseas trip we had together as a company. It was also the first time I saw how the boys have developed their friendships into brotherhood. A family is forming as they grow to accept one another along with the differences. This trip brought about many “firsts” in our BB company.
We had our first train ride together into Jerantut (Malaysia). A past midnight transit where our boys had their first time sleeping in cockroaches infested rooms. A bus ride to Gua Kota Gelanggi. For all of us, our FIRST TIME camping in caves. Wow! It was amazing how caves are formed. It has natural cool breezes from morning to night like air-conditioned. Rocks which form images which range from animal shapes to as far as your imagination can bring you. For many, our first attempt in rock climbing and abseiling on natural rock walls. Darkness brought the boys closer together when fear drives them to share their light with each other.
The second day we trekked up Bukit Teresek at Taman Negara National Park. For some, their first longest climb up twice the height of Bukit Timah Hill. Still for some, the first time they experienced brotherhood as they held hands to avoid danger on the rainforest track. A few had their first conquest over height phobia as they walked through the canopy walk (swinging bridges). For all of us, the first time getting wet together as a narrow wooden boat brought us through the grade one rapids down the river.
The entire trip had a beautiful closure as we gathered in one of the room in Tekam Plantation Resort on the last night for a time of trip facilitation. Each boy had their first attempt to affirm and appreciate their buddies. The strength of the company is indeed built upon the individual effort to strengthen ties. To build rather than tear down, to encourage rather put down, to accept rather than reject and to love rather than to wait for love. Like many overseas trips, I know it is a milestone for 99th company and the memories will be the rock structure in the caves, staying in the hearts of the boys for a long time. More importantly, the seeds of truth sown and the valuable lessons learnt.
